Starting with the poem Do Not Stand At My Grave and Weep, I have been making a small journal quilt to honour the death of my Mum two weeks ago.
Writing the poem on fabric
Chopping up the fabric into 1.5" strips and adding 1.5" squares along the way of some hand-dyed fabric
re-piecing the fabric
sketching in some poppies
adding colour
All very therapeutic and allows me to thoroughly imbibe this wonderful poem.

ReplyDeleteHow beautiful to make this with all that love and memories 'woven' or rather stitched into what will become a family heirloom. It made me emotional about my own Mum, often in my thoughts, who died 39 years ago.

ReplyDeleteHow beautiful. I worked on an art quilt for 5 weeks while at the hospital with my mom before she died...and it was where I poured my emotion. Your piece is so special.
