Little Egret

Little Egret, September 2012
11.5" x 6.5"

So, this months journal piece is based on a week we had in Devon, staying on the creekside at Noss Mayo. Devon, England. The little egret appeared every morning, foraging in the mudflat in the company of two seagulls.

There is a lot of hand stitch in this and some machine. Click on the image for a close up.

The plan is to make a stitched journal piece of this size, every month, for a year with the view to an exhibition at some point with my group "Connect In Threads". I look forward to the discipline of this!

Being unable to walk much at the moment has afforded me the opportunity to play, in my head and sometimes in stitch, more than I normally do.

It's strange, but the two pieces I've made have both featured birds and I'm reading "When Women Were Birds" by Terry Tempest Williams. A time to reflect. A time to listen to the birds. They do what they do because they DO.
