Don't cut my fringe.

I have been looking at fringes. I pulled, ripped and unpicked some jeans to make a bag and loved the raggedy edges. Like grasses waving, or so they seem.

Since then I notice these little hairy fringes everywhere. There are no straight edges in nature. I love these tomatoes and their hairy legs!

...and the aubergine's hirsute stem and flower
It has got me making some cards using some left over strips of denim.
I like the way the dye has altered when the seams are unpicked.

Little houses in the mountains.

Sailing through some ribbon waves.

Thermofax printing on denim a nice twist.
The bag that started it all.
A fringed paw.

  2. This noticing..."selective perception" I think, is the scientific term...is happening to so many of us! We're all stitched up, hanging out with frayed edges and weaving bits of cloth into small miracles - woooo hoooo, isn't this all grand?!?!

  3. "selective perception" - a good term for what happens as a result of stitching. I will carry this thought ...

  7. P.S. I don't wear jeans, or I'd be cutting them up, tearing and fraying. Maybe if I spilled acrylic ink all over heavy-weight calico and shredded it into strips, then sort of bleached it ... what do you think? Trouble is, I have enough experiments on the go, but this intrigues me

  10. I love the little blue denim houses nestled amongst thread and waves of other blue-ness. The bag is simply gorgeous too - did you make it? I would absolutely love one like this?
